AR How do you decide what to collect? SA I don’t like to limit myself. I collect anything that I find remotely interesting or objects that I feel will start a conversation. I often choose to collect more obscure pieces that sometimes cause others to stop and question their existence within a space.

AR Top three things you look for when picking at a flea market? SA Vintage artwork and books, primitive tools—that I often display like pieces of artwork—and eccentric objects that can be used as tabletop accessories in lieu of more traditional ones.

AR Your favorite online vintage shops? SA 1stdibs and Eneby Home.

AR Tell us about your mood boards. SA My home is my mood board. I’m most inspired by my environment—if you’re surrounded by things that spark creativity, you’ll never find yourself short on vision.

AR How do you think creativity unites us across political, social, and economic divides? SA Creativity is a pure, authentic expression of humanity. Creativity exists everywhere, from the choir lofts of a rural church, to a carpenter’s workshop, to the walls of a high street art gallery. Sharing in creative expression is one of the things that will always connect us to one another.

AR How do you feel when you’re creating? SA Alive. Vulnerable. Empowered. Strong. I feel everything I need to in order to push further and be better.

AR Best life advice you offer, or best life advice you’ve received? SA “Trust your gut.” Once I started listening to this, everything became easier!
